An Amish birth

Today was the due date of the very first Amish family that I am blessed with being their birth assistant!  So I guess she is now "over due" in medical terms.  She is so small, you can barely tell she is pregnant.  I met with them just 3 weeks ago.  In Nebraska, if you want a home birth, you cannot have a CNM attend.  It is illegal for them to practice homebirths.  BUT anyone else can.  THAT is messed up!  So I have made it my priviledge to assist these families in having home births with my knowledge (which isn't THAT much, but something) and experience to more safely deliver these babies.  At least they don't have to be alone!  I will keep you updated on how this goes.  They don't have electricity...have to hook up the horse and cart to get to a phone to call me...I am 1 1/2 hour away from them.   hmmmm  I hope it happens during the day.  Dear Lord, PLEASE let this baby come during the day!

In the beginning...

That is a great way to begin anything.  I guess at the beginning.  In the beginning...God created man and then woman.  I always tell my husband God had to create woman for the sake of help for man.  Without woman, there would be that one lost man (Adam) still roaming around looking for his lost items.  HA!

In the beginning, there was also no hospitals, no epidurals, no pitocin, no c-sections....only faith in the Lord's way.  The way the Lord wants his will done on earth.  So many people out there question the Lord's way, the Word of the Bible, AND natural birth.  (Natural Birth is defined in so many different ways.)  Birth belongs to the woman.  No man can say he knows what you are going through.  No man can "direct" a natural birth.  See, that is where natural birth changes right away.  Someone allowed a man somewhere to be part of the birth process.  THAT is where it went wrong.  Birth is for women.  The father is there for support, but he isn't the one TELLING the woman what to do or how to do it or what she is doing wrong.  There is no way any man can tell a woman how she is giving birth is wrong.

So the beginning is just that.  Birth is the beginning.  The baby is born from the woman's body without any interferences.  IF there are complications, then find a WOMAN (midwife) that specailizes in birth.  Doctors can say all kinds of things.  Whatever they want you to believe.  But it's not the truth.  Midwives have studied birth.  They find safety in the Word of God.  God may have other plans for that child you don't know about.  When you put that life, the baby, in the hands of doctors, you are changing God's plans for that child before it's even born.

Birth isn't like fixing a broken arm.  There is so much more to birth than "a healthy baby".  (Those words erk me SO much.  "All we care about is getting the baby out healthy."  Yea, that is ALL you care about.  What about the REAL health of the whole birth?!)
